What is the most romantic thing to do in London? That was one of the questions asked to over 100 loved-up Londoners in the City Cruises Valentine’s Day survey.
While 14% of people fancy an intimate picnic on top of Primrose Hill and 12% prefer the luxury of tea at the Ritz, a massive 70% said the most romantic thing to do in London was a cruise down the river. Likewise, when asked what they would most like to be doing this Valentine’s Day, 80% said enjoying a candle lit supper on a Thames cruise.
Of course, over a quarter of respondents also said their dream date would be with George Clooney. Sadly, gents, we can’t make that a reality for your special someone, but we may be able to help you celebrate Valentine’s night at their ideal location.
Sparks will fly
End your date with a bang. Fantastic Fireworks are hosting an explosive firework display, close to London’s iconic O2 on the 14th February. A special City Cruises River Lights service will be heading straight for the O2 to put you in prime position on the river to admire London’s first Valentine’s fireworks as they trace red love hearts across London’s skyline.
Yes, we said red love hearts. In the sky.
While not oohing and aahing with your partner (at the fireworks, of course), you can charm them over drinks, canapés and live entertainment on this relaxing late-night cruise. For more information about River Lights click here. (Obviously make sure you book for the 14th for the fireworks. One night only!)
Valentine’s day dinner and dancing cruise
If you want something more traditional, City Cruises’ Valentine’s Day river cruise will give you and your partner a night to remember. The River Thames is truly magical after dark as the London skyline comes alive with thousands of twinkly lights. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more romantic atmosphere, and that’s before you’ve even stepped onboard to be greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne. Take your seats as the boat sets sail and the band starts up its Valentine’s-themed set, including a mix of love songs and chilled sounds: the perfect background accompaniment to the spectacular sights.
As you begin the cruise down towards Tower Bridge you’ll enjoy a luxury 3-course meal. Start with a Smoked Salmon Mousse & King Prawns with Mesclun Salad served with Mustard and Honey Sauce; followed with Roast Supreme of Chicken Stuffed with Gorgonzola & wrapped in Parma Ham & served with a Redcurrant & Thyme Sauce (served with Dauphinoise Potato and French beans & Buttered Carrots); and finish with our delectable Dark & White Chocolate Cheesecake with Mixed Berry Compote & Crème Anglaise.
For the equally mouth watering vegetarian option click here.
The indulgence doesn’t stop there, as you make space for after dinner teas and coffees, with the added Valentine’s accompaniment of petit fours, the band will begin the second part of their set. By now we’re sure you’ll have enjoyed the complimentary half bottle of wine, so no excuses not to whisk your partner off their feet for a spin around the dance floor. And with the band playing until you return to the pier at 10:30pm, there’s plenty of time to fit in a slow dance.
If you want an exceptional meal, live music, dance floor and amazing views then make sure you book a place on the Valentine’s cruise. It’s running for two nights this year on the 14th and 15th February with two ticket types, £115 per person for a window table or £105 per person for a standard table. The boat departs from Westminster pier at 7.30pm (boarding starts at 7.15pm), the cruise returns to Westminster pier at 10.30pm. Find full details here.
